Emine Erdogan, wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, visited the National Botanical Garden of Turkey and examined products grown from heirloom seeds. Collecting tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, Shamama melons, beans, and corn in the 'Our Heritage Local Seed Garden,' Emine Erdogan said, 'We carried out our harvest today.' During the visit, she also toured the soilless agriculture greenhouse and the Agricultural Biodiversity Museum.
Emine Erdogan visited the National Botanical Garden of Türkiye in Ankara. Touring the production areas in the garden, Erdogan harvested products grown from heirloom seeds and examined soilless agriculture practices and the Agricultural Biodiversity Museum, which holds special museum status.
SHE HARVESTED PRODUCTS FROM HEIRLOOM SEEDS
Upon her arrival at the National Botanical Garden of Türkiye, Emine Erdogan was welcomed by Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, Deputy Minister Ahmet Bağcı, and officials. First, Erdogan toured the sapling production area and received information about the plant species cultivated there. She then proceeded to the "Our Heritage Local Seed Garden," established in 2024 under the "Our Heritage Local Seed" project carried out under her auspices. Examining 24 different vegetables and fruits grown from heirloom seeds in the garden, Emine Erdogan collected tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, summer melons, beans, and corn into the basket in her hand. After the harvest, Erdogan said, "We have completed our harvest today."
SHE TOURED THE SOILLESS AGRICULTURE GREENHOUSE
Emine Erdogan then examined the species cultivated at the "Ornamental Plants Production Center." Afterwards, she moved to the igloo-shaped "Soilless Agriculture Greenhouse." There, she received information about the production processes of products such as lettuce, basil, arugula, parsley, and strawberries grown using the "nutrient film technique." Erdogan also toured the area featuring the upside-down cedar tree and other landscape plants.
SHE CLOSELY EXAMINED ANATOLIA'S BIODIVERSITY
Another stop on the visit was the Agricultural Biodiversity Museum, registered with "special museum" status by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2024. There, Emine Erdogan examined wild animals, cultivated plants, herbarium specimens, and the ethnobiological reflections of agricultural products. She received information about the galleries titled "Healing Plants: Nature's Pharmacy," "The Power of Scents: Plants Bearing Essential Oils," "From Seed to Drop: Plants from Which Oil is Obtained," "Those Adding Flavor to Our Table: Spices and Food Plants," and "Nature's Gold: Wheat and Grains." Erdogan also met with children in the museum's library, and at the end of the visit, she received a painting featuring images of Türkiye's local wheat varieties from Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı.
