Emir Sarıgül, the son of Mustafa Sarıgül, for whom a custody order had been issued in an investigation conducted over allegations of money laundering and aggravated fraud, surrendered. After Sarıgül went to the police station, a striking statement also came from his father, Mustafa Sarıgül. While Sarıgül argued that they had met with the people at the center of the investigation for the purpose of investing in Turkey, he claimed that the documents were fake.

A new development has occurred in the money laundering and aggravated fraud investigation involving Mustafa Sarıgül and some members of his family. Emir Sarıgül, Sarıgül's elder son, for whom a detention order had been issued, went to the Istanbul Provincial Police Department and surrendered. His father, Mustafa Sarıgül, in his statement regarding the investigation, defended that the meetings were aimed at bringing investment to Türkiye and responded to the allegations against him.

HE WENT TO THE ISTANBUL POLICE DEPARTMENT

Mustafa Sarıgül stated that his son Emir Sarıgül surrendered by going to the Istanbul Provincial Police Department after his lawyer returned from abroad, upon the detention order issued against him within the scope of the investigation.

INVESTIGATION STARTED WITH COMPLAINT OF TWO GERMAN CITIZENS

The investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was launched after two German citizens applied with the allegation that high amounts of money of unknown origin were laundered through companies established domestically and abroad.

The file examines allegations regarding an 80 million euro contract, a 100 million euro transfer, a promise of a 1 billion euro fund transfer, and the sale of a 1.5 million euro boat.

Within the scope of the investigation, it was reported that detention orders were also issued for Ömer Sarıgül, Aylin Kotil, Volkan Aslanbaş, Cavidan Tanrah Artuner, and journalist Murat Ağırel, in addition to Emir Sarıgül.

STATEMENT FROM MUSTAFA SARIGÜL

After Emir Sarıgül surrendered, Mustafa Sarıgül made a statement on his social media account regarding the investigation. Stating that the meetings were held with the aim of bringing investment to Türkiye, Sarıgül argued that no public tender, land, or loan was provided, nor was any promise made to that effect.

Sargül stated that they discussed investment projects with the people at the center of the investigation and claimed that when they realized the projects were fabricated and intended for fraud, they cut off contact with these people.

“THE ONLY PARTY HARMED IN THE INCIDENT IS ME AND MY FAMILY”

Claiming that the documents, contracts, bank receipts, and notary certifications submitted by the opposing party were fake, Sarıgül stated that all information and documents on the matter would be shared with the investigation authorities by his lawyers.

Sarıgül alleged that the said persons contacted journalist Murat Ağırel to create public pressure after they failed to achieve results from their blackmail attempts. He stated that after Ağırel wanted to examine, verify, and listen to the parties regarding the allegations and documents that reached him, a complaint was filed with the Financial Crimes Unit against the family members and the journalist.

“NO ONE SHOULD BE WRONGED BECAUSE OF THEIR SURNAME”

Drawing attention to the presumption of innocence in his statement, Mustafa Sarıgül expressed that having a well-known surname cannot be shown as a reason for anyone to be accused in advance.

Stating that the courts would decide what the crime is, by whom it was committed, and what penalty would be applied, Sarıgül emphasized that the rule of law and the right not to be tarnished should apply to everyone.

At the end of his statement, Sarıgül announced that after his son Emir Sarıgül's lawyer returned from abroad, he went to the police station together with his lawyer.
