DECISION EXPECTED The trial regarding the death of 17-year-old Atlas Çağlayan, who was stabbed by 14-year-old E.Ç. in Güngören, will continue tomorrow at 10:00 AM. The case, which is being heard by the Bakırköy 2nd Children's Heavy Penal Court, is expected to be concluded.
OPINION GIVEN AT FIRST HEARING The first hearing of the case related to the incident was held on June 9. At the first hearing, the Republic Prosecutor presented their opinion on the merits. The prosecution requested that the suspect E.Ç. be sentenced to a total of 21 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison for the crimes of 'intentional killing of a child' against Atlas Çağlayan, and 'threatening with a weapon' and 'violating Law No. 6136' against the victims D.Ç., R.E.O., T.U.A., and Y.O.O., and that his detention be continued.
FROM THE INDICTMENT In the indictment prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, E.Ç. (14) is listed as the 'suspect', Atlas Çağlayan as the 'deceased', 4 children, including Çağlayan's twin brother Doruk, as 'victims', and 3 people, including Çağlayan's parents, as 'complainants'. The indictment stated that on the day of the incident, January 14, at around 20:16, an argument broke out between two groups in a cafe, during which the Child Pushed into Crime (CPC) E.Ç. stabbed Atlas Çağlayan. As a result of this incident, Çağlayan died in the hospital where he was taken, and an investigation was launched regarding the incident. The death examination report stated that the injury was fatal on its own.
The prepared indictment included the report of the Forensic Medicine Institute (FMI). The report emphasized that E.Ç. had committed the crimes of 'intentional killing', 'violating Law No. 6136 on firearms, knives and other tools', and 'threatening with a weapon', and that his ability to perceive the legal meaning and consequences of his actions and to direct his behavior was sufficiently developed.
Furthermore, the death examination report of the deceased Atlas Çağlayan, dated January 15, 2026, was also included in the indictment. According to the report, Çağlayan had a 3.5 centimeter cut in the middle front of the chest and a 1.5 centimeter cut on the left side of the chest. The autopsy report stated that 2 stab wounds were found on the body, there were large stab wounds in certain areas of the chest, and this injury was fatal on its own.
The video review reports of the incident day were also included in the indictment. According to the reports, on the day of the incident, E.Ç. and his friends were sitting in the cafe, then Atlas arrived. As E.Ç. was leaving the cafe, he made eye contact with Atlas. Atlas and his friends followed the CPC and his friends. E.Ç. took a knife out of his pocket and wounded Çağlayan by swinging the knife 2-3 times. After stabbing the deceased, the CPC fled with his friends. On the other hand, it was also stated that in the 3-month search and trace base data of the suspect E.Ç. and the deceased Atlas Çağlayan, no base records were found between the parties. According to the examination of E.Ç.'s phone, it was mentioned in the indictment that the suspect had multiple photos of himself holding a gun, photos of a gun alone, and one photo of a pocket knife.
REQUESTED SENTENCE In the prepared indictment, it was requested that the suspect E.Ç. be sentenced to a total prison term ranging from 13 years and 6 months up to 21 years, 7 months, and 15 days for the crimes of 'intentional killing of a child', 'violating Law No. 6136', and 'threatening with a weapon in a chain-like manner'.
