The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, stated, "We are implementing a regulation that will affect 3% of 42 million subscribers. Approximately 275 billion lira in subsidies were provided for natural gas and electricity in 2023, and around 400 billion lira in 2024." He also added, "(Regarding natural gas) We are not considering any changes for this first quarter, meaning there will be no price increase."
The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, met with media representatives in Ankara. Minister Bayraktar signaled that electricity bills could rise after the new period starting on February 1, while stating that they do not foresee an increase in natural gas for this winter.
"NO INCREASE IN NATURAL GAS IN THE FIRST QUARTER"
Minister Bayraktar emphasized that approximately 275 billion lira in subsidies for natural gas and electricity were provided to citizens in 2023, and around 400 billion lira in 2024, stating, "This year, the budget shows over 230 billion lira for electricity and over 200 billion lira for natural gas."
A SIMILAR APPLICATION WILL COME FOR NATURAL GAS
Stating that there will be no increase in natural gas in the first quarter, Bayraktar emphasized that a similar regulation is being worked on for natural gas, saying, "Probably nothing will change this winter. But we are considering something similar for natural gas as well. There may be a regulation within 2025. It might only happen towards the end of the year in terms of affecting citizens."
In response to journalists' questions about the natural gas price increase, Bayraktar said, "We are not thinking of anything for this first quarter, meaning there is no increase." Bayraktar also noted that a 65% subsidy is applied to all subscribers for natural gas.
"OUR 30-YEAR DREAM WILL HOPEFULLY COME TRUE"
Referring to the transportation of Turkmen gas to Europe via Turkey, Bayraktar stated, "We are continuing our intensive work regarding the arrival of Turkmen gas to Turkey. Our thirty-year dream will hopefully come true. I can say we have reached the final stages."
