New details of scandal are emerging every day in the investigation into the newborn gang. A 73-year-old woman with hypertension and heart disease, who was admitted to a private hospital in Istanbul in April 2017, passed away in July. Türkan Ç., who said she took her mother to the hospital only because her blood pressure had risen, stated, "All the doctors at the hospital in Bağcılar were on vacation, and they asked me to cover the flight and expenses to bring that doctor. I had to cover that. I also paid them the money. My mother underwent angiography that way. So, my mother, who was admitted to the hospital only for hypertension, died due to multiple organ failure."

SHE DIED IN THE HOSPITAL SHE WENT TO FOR BLOOD PRESSURE COMPLAINTS

While the investigation into the newborn gang continues regarding the deaths of 12 babies who were admitted to the intensive care unit for 8,000 lira a day in Istanbul, it is claimed that a citizen named Türkan Ç. took her 73-year-old mother Necla Ç., who had hypertension, to Şafak Hospital in Küçükköy, Gaziosmanpaşa, in April 2017. It is alleged that the elderly woman, who was admitted to the hospital, was later transferred to the Şafak Hospital in Bağcılar, mentioned in the investigation, for angiography. After the angiography procedure, the elderly woman was taken back to the hospital in Gaziosmanpaşa. The elderly woman passed away in July due to multiple organ failure.

Türkan Ç., who said she did everything she could to cover her mother's hospital expenses, claimed that during the treatment process, the doctors required her to cover the flight and expenses for her mother to undergo angiography. Türkan Ç. stated that patients were treated with a customer mentality in the hospital, saying: "In 2017, we took my mother to Şafak Hospital due to her hypertension. We took her to the Küçükköy branch of Şafak Hospital because of high blood pressure. She also had a pacemaker in her heart. But in the emergency room, they would give her sublingual pills for blood pressure and normally send her home after doing one or two tests. At least that was the case when I took her to other hospitals.

PAID 20 THOUSAND LIRA TO RECEIVE HER MOTHER'S FUNERAL

Then they admitted my mother. That admission started in April. It lasted until the ninth of July, and on the ninth, I had to take my mother's body from that hospital. They made me sign a promissory note for 20,000 lira to be able to receive her body. They didn't provide any report. Everything was suspicious. This process was very distressing for me. Because every test cost money. Every procedure was a source of income for them. Because patients were treated not as patients but really with a customer mentality. During Ramadan, it was said that my mother would undergo angiography. I was told that there were no doctors in the hospital and that they were all on vacation. Then they said I needed to take her to the Bağcılar branch of the hospital."

CLAIMED TO HAVE COVERED DOCTORS' FLIGHT EXPENSES

Türkan Ç., who claimed to have covered the doctors' flight and expenses, said, "All the doctors at the hospital in Bağcılar were on vacation, and they asked me to cover the flight and expenses to bring that doctor. I had to cover that. I also paid them the money. My mother underwent angiography that way. So, my mother, who was admitted to the hospital only for hypertension, died due to multiple organ failure. I also showed you my mother's photos," she said.

"PATIENTS WERE CUSTOMERS FOR THEM"

Türkan Ç. claimed that she heard conversations between the hospital owner and the staff, saying, "We were subjected to various situations, and what troubled me was this: Before my mother passed away, I heard a nurse talking to the hospital owner on the other side of the counter. The hospital owner told the nurse, 'Don't be idle, pull the customers coming to the emergency room to the wards.' Because patients were customers for them. They were pulling patients in this way and admitting them by generating diseases through various tests. Because my mother had no kidney disease or any other illness before. She had knee pain due to aging and hypertension. But I researched this issue and learned that giving elderly patients long-term medication can lead to multiple organ failure, which I understood was the cause of her death," she stated.

"I WILL FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE"

Türkan Ç. stated that her mother's death always left a question mark in her mind and that she would file a complaint with the prosecutor's office regarding this issue, saying, "Babies are the most innocent, harmless people in the world. They are not even the last people to be harmed. What would people who do this to babies not do to the elderly? I will file a complaint with the prosecutor's office regarding this issue. Because my mother's death has always left a question mark in my mind. I felt guilty for taking my mother to that hospital. I hope those who listen to me, those who watch me, and those who lost their parents during that period will also agree. I think it will be a beginning for them as well. Because during that time, 20-30 people called the Ministry of Health with me and filed complaints," she said.
