In Mersin, two masked suspects sprayed a person in the face and stole a bag reportedly containing $250,000. The incident was captured on security camera.
A robbery that boggles the mind took place in broad daylight in Mersin. Two suspects wearing helmets and masks approached a person walking on the street from behind, sprayed pepper spray and tear gas in the unfortunate man's face, and stole the bag containing 250 thousand dollars (approximately 8.5 million TL). Those moments, rivalling movie scenes, were captured second by second on nearby security cameras.
THEY APPROACHED FROM BEHIND AND BLINDED HIM WITH SPRAY
The incident occurred on Uray Street in the Cami Şerif neighborhood of the central Akdeniz district of Mersin. According to claims, two helmeted attackers targeted a citizen walking normally on the street with a bag in his hand and began to follow him stealthily. Seizing the right moment, the suspects approached the man from behind and suddenly sprayed chemical spray and tear gas in his face. Taking the bag from the bewildered and pained victim by force, the helmeted robbers quickly disappeared with the money. It was claimed that the bag contained exactly 250 thousand dollars.
WITNESS SHOPKEEPER: HE HAD A BLACK GUN, I THOUGHT IT WAS THE POLICE
Hayati Çimen, a shopkeeper on the street where the incident occurred who witnessed the robbers' escape with his own eyes, described his shock with these words: "Two people ran past me. The one behind had a black gun. At first, I couldn't tell which was the police and which was the thief. While I was looking after them in surprise, police squad vehicles came right behind them. Then I realized both were suspects. I saw that the tall one had his mouth covered with a mask, and the other was holding a helmet. Since I thought they might be police as they ran past me and was mistaken, I couldn't intervene at that moment."
POLICE ARE ON THE TRAIL OF THE SPRAY ROBBERS
The horrifying moments were recorded moment by moment by the security camera of a business on the street. The images clearly show the moments when the helmeted suspects, who robbed the citizen blinded by spray, tried to disappear while running in panic with a large bag and a gun in their hands. Upon the notification, a large number of police teams were dispatched to the scene. Examining all camera recordings in the area, the public order teams launched a large-scale manhunt to capture the two helmeted and armed suspects who pulled off the 250 thousand dollar heist.
