A landslide during the foundation excavation of a construction site in Tunceli frightened the residents of an adjacent 5-story building. The building, which contains 12 apartments, was evacuated as a precautionary measure, and teams launched an investigation in the area.
LANDSLIDE OCCURRED DURING EXCAVATION
The incident occurred in the Yurtkur area of Atatürk District. Foundation excavation was initiated with construction machinery for the planned building. It was reported that during the works, the excavation area advanced to a point close to the foundation of the adjacent 5-story building.
In the evening hours, a landslide occurred at a point near the ground floor of the building. Residents who felt the tremor rushed outside in panic.
AFAD AND FIRE DEPARTMENT DISPATCHED TO THE AREA
Upon the report, AFAD, fire department, and police teams were sent to the area. Security measures were taken around the building, and its electricity and natural gas connections were cut off.
The residents of the building with 12 apartments were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Teams are continuing their inspections both in the building and in the area where the landslide occurred.
"WE THOUGHT IT WAS AN EARTHQUAKE"
Eren Turan, one of the evacuated residents, said they thought it was an earthquake due to the tremor.
Turan claimed that they had conveyed their concerns to the authorities before the excavation works and alleged that sufficient distance was not left between the building and the excavation.
Stating that water passed under the ground after the excavation, Turan claimed that the necessary precautions were not taken.
"ALL OUR BELONGINGS ARE INSIDE"
Expressing that a new uncertainty has begun for them after what happened, Turan noted that his family is elderly and said, "After this point, we will try to find shelter with our own means. All our belongings are inside. Where will we stay?"
It was stated that evaluations by relevant institutions were ongoing regarding where the residents would temporarily stay.
