In the Atakum district of Samsun, a suspicious powdery substance was found in a sack washed ashore from the sea. After a dust cloud formed when the sack was opened, teams took security precautions, and it was determined that the substance was also visible at different points along the coastline. In the examination by police, Coast Guard, AFAD, and relevant teams, no radioactive substance was found according to initial determinations. What the substance is is being investigated.
A sack washed ashore from the sea attracted the attention of citizens on the coast of İncesu Yalı District in Samsun's Atakum district.
A POWDERED SUBSTANCE WAS FOUND INSIDE
During the examination of the sack, it was determined that it contained a powdered substance. When a dust cloud formed while opening the sack, teams took security measures in the area. Subsequently, during inspections along the shore, it was determined that the substance was also seen in the form of foam in places.
ALSO SEEN AT DIFFERENT POINTS OF THE COASTLINE
It was reported that the suspicious substance was seen not only on İncesu beach but also at different points of the Samsun coastline. It was stated that the substance was seen in Denizevleri District, Adnan Menderes Boulevard, Yeşilyurt AVM location in Atakum district, as well as at Costal beach in Çarşamba district, and on Terme beach.
TEAMS EXAMINED IN DETAIL
Following the reports, police teams, the Coast Guard, AFAD, and teams from the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change were dispatched to İncesu beach. While teams thoroughly examined the suspicious substances found on the shore, they took necessary precautions in the area for the safety of citizens. According to initial information, it was learned that no radioactive substance was detected in the checks conducted on the material washed ashore.
REMOVED FROM THE AREA
After the examinations, teams from Samsun Metropolitan Municipality also intervened with construction equipment in the area where the suspicious substance was found. It was learned that the collected material was loaded onto a pickup truck and removed from the area.
WHAT IT IS IS UNKNOWN
What the content of the suspicious substance is, whether it poses any risk to human health, and how it reached the sea have not yet been clarified. It is expected that the exact nature of the substance will be determined following examinations by expert teams.
