Eighteen people lost their lives in an explosion at an illegally operated coal mine in the Indian state of Meghalaya. During the search and rescue operations, a seriously injured miner was taken to the hospital.

It has been reported that an explosion occurred for an undetermined reason in an illegal coal mine in the East Jaintia Hills region of Meghalaya state in northeastern India. Authorities noted that 18 workers' lifeless bodies were found during the search and rescue operations initiated after the explosion.
