WHAT HAPPENED?

Burcu Köksal, who had remained silent for a long time and was alleged not to answer CHP officials' calls, confirmed in her latest statement to journalist Barış Yarkadaş that she would join the AK Party.

It was reported that Köksal said, "I am joining the AK Party at the expanded provincial chairpersons' meeting on Tuesday. There is no threat or pressure behind this decision. There is also no investigation against me."

Last night, party members gathered in front of the CHP Provincial Directorate and the municipal building, protesting with slogans such as "Don't make him chairman."

While party administrators stated they could not reach Köksal, CHP Afyonkarahisar Provincial Chairman Hasan Karadeniz said, "Unfortunately, our mayor has succumbed to political pressure and could not resist. She could not show the same resilience as our mayors who resisted."
