The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), chaired by Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan, will meet today at 14.00. The 6th interest rate decision of the year will be announced at the meeting.
The bank, which has been implementing a tight monetary policy since June of last year, last raised the policy rate in March. The policy rate remained unchanged in April and May.
The median expectation of economists regarding changes in the policy rate is for it to remain unchanged at 50 percent. All economists predict that the policy rate will be kept at 50 percent.
The median expectation of economists for the year-end policy rate is 50 percent. Among the economists who shared their expectations for the end of the year, 3 predicted that the policy rate would be 50 percent, 1 predicted 47.5 percent, 1 predicted 45 percent, 1 predicted 44 percent, and 2 predicted 40 percent.
According to the survey of market participants conducted by the CBRT, the expectation for the current month and 3 months ahead is 50 percent. The expectation for the policy rate for 12 months ahead also decreased from 37.11 percent to 35.90 percent.
