After Özgür Özel's departure from the CHP, the new occupant of the vacant Group Chairmanship seat has been determined. Following a meeting held by General Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu with parliamentarians, Tekirdağ MP Faik Öztrak became the CHP's new Group Chairman after his rival, Elazığ MP Gürsel Erol, withdrew. Meanwhile, İzmir MPs Sevda Erdan Kılıç and Rahmi Aşkın Türeli were elected as deputy group chairs.
After Özgür Özel left the party to establish the New Party, lawmakers went to the polls for the vacant Group Chairmanship position in the CHP.
TWO CANDIDATES COMPETED
In the election held following CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's meeting with lawmakers, Tekirdağ MP Faik Öztrak and Elazığ MP Gürsel Erol competed.
In the first round, Erol received 19 votes, Öztrak 18. In the second round, Öztrak got 21 votes and Erol 17. After the second round, Gürsel Erol withdrew from the race, and Faik Öztrak became the new CHP Group Chairperson.
SERVED AS MP FOR 6 TERMS
Öztrak, who has been an MP for six terms and is known for being close to Kılıçdaroğlu, also served as the CHP Party Spokesperson in the previous term.
