According to Pakistani government sources, the US and Iran have responded positively to a permanent ceasefire proposal mediated by Pakistan and Qatar. As diplomatic traffic between the parties accelerates, hopes for the resumption of suspended negotiations have increased. However, it was noted that the ceasefire around the Strait of Hormuz remains fragile and the risk of renewed conflict persists.
Following the renewed escalation of tensions between the US and Iran, diplomatic traffic has accelerated. According to Pakistani government sources, both Washington and Tehran have responded positively to a permanent ceasefire proposal presented by Pakistan and Qatar. It is stated that mediators continue their contacts with both sides, while fragility persists in the Strait of Hormuz.
CONTACTS INTENSIFIED
Pakistani government sources familiar with the negotiation process stated that diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran have accelerated following the claim that US President Donald Trump instructed the military not to launch a new attack on Iran.
BOTH SIDES POSITIVE TOWARD DIALOGUE
The sources conveyed that both the US and Iran have responded to the proposal prepared under the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar, which envisions the parties returning to their positions before the recent conflicts in order to achieve a permanent ceasefire and restart peace negotiations.
Stating that both sides are positive toward dialogue and diplomacy to end the conflicts, the sources expressed that the pause in attacks has increased hopes for restarting the interrupted negotiations.
FRAGILITY CONTINUES IN HORMUZ
The sources noted that the ceasefire around the Strait of Hormuz remains fragile and emphasized that the risk of violation or resumption of conflicts is high. It was reported that the mediating countries are in continuous communication with both sides to reduce tension and strengthen the ceasefire process.
TRUMP CLAIM
Two unnamed sources speaking to Axios claimed that Trump did not approve a new attack plan against Iran on Friday and instructed the military not to conduct new airstrikes. The same sources also stated that the US military continues planning for the possibility of transitioning to large-scale military operations.
It was reported that, around the time the claim that Trump did not approve a new attack emerged, an Omani delegation arrived in Tehran to hold talks on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
NEGOTIATION PROCESS INTERRUPTED
In order to end the conflicts that began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran, Washington and Tehran signed the Islamabad Agreement on June 14, providing for a 60-day negotiation process for a final agreement.
However, the negotiation process was again disrupted when the US launched new attacks on Iran on July 8, and Iran responded by targeting US bases in neighboring countries.
