In Izmir, 60-year-old Nurten Kandemir shot and killed her 19-year-old mentally disabled son, Ahmet Barış Kandemir, who was undergoing leukemia treatment, and then committed suicide.
Nurten Kandemir, living in the Urla district of Izmir, shot her disabled son Ahmet Barış Kandemir, who was undergoing leukemia treatment, with a pistol. She then took her own life with the same pistol.
NOTICED BY SERVICE PERSONNEL
The incident occurred on 2090 Street in the İskele Neighborhood. In the morning, service personnel who went to the house to take Ahmet Barış Kandemir, who was stated to be undergoing leukemia treatment and mentally disabled, to a special education school, pressed the doorbell when they did not see him at the door. When no one answered the door, the suspicious personnel looked through the window and saw Nurten Kandemir and her son Ahmet Barış Kandemir covered in blood.
MOTHER AND SON DIED AT THE SCENE
Upon the report, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Examinations by health teams determined that Nurten Kandemir and Ahmet Barış Kandemir had lost their lives.
COMMITTED SUICIDE WITH THE SAME WEAPON
An investigation by the police revealed that Nurten Kandemir shot her son with a pistol and then committed suicide with the same weapon. The bodies were taken to the morgue for autopsy. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
