WHO IS ASIL NADIR?
Asil Nadir was born in 1941 in Lefke. When his family moved to London in 1961, Asil Nadir was a student at Istanbul University Faculty of Economics. He dropped out of school and entered the business world. He purchased the London-based Wear Well clothing company.
The Sunday Times ranked him 11th among the richest people in the world. He became known in Turkey when he bought the Günaydın newspaper in 1988. He then purchased the Güneş and Tan newspapers, as well as the Nokta magazine. Nadir, who also had numerous investments in Turkey, fled to the TRNC in 1993 after his companies went bankrupt. He returned to England in 2010. In 2013, he was sent to Turkey to serve the remaining 5 years of his sentence.
Asil Nadir's first wife is Ayşegül Tecimer (b. 09.08.1945), whom he married on September 15, 1962. The couple, who met in Istanbul in 1961, divorced in 1989. Asil Nadir married Neriman Nur on December 2, 2005.
