James Handy, a well-known character actor from Hollywood, lost his life in a knife attack at his home in the Tarzana neighborhood of Los Angeles, USA. In connection with the death of the 81-year-old actor, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, identified as the son of his girlfriend, has been taken into custody.
CHILLING 911 CALL
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) dispatched units to the address on Erwin Street following an unusual 911 call. According to police officials, the caller said on the phone, "I am a human being, I killed the sinful man."
FOUND BLOODY IN FRONT YARD
Arriving at the scene, officers found James Handy in the front yard of his home, unconscious with multiple stab wounds to his chest. Despite initial medical intervention and being rushed to the hospital, the actor could not be saved.
SUSPECT CONFESSED TO THE CRIME
According to police statements, Michael Gledhill approached officers conducting a search in the area shortly after the incident and said he was the person they were looking for. It was reported that Gledhill admitted to carrying out the attack and stated that he was also the one who called 911.
ARRESTED ON $2 MILLION BAIL
The 44-year-old suspect was taken into custody on murder charges and sent to Van Nuys Jail. Authorities announced that Gledhill's bail was set at $2 million.
POLICE: NO DANGER TO THE PUBLIC
In a statement issued by the LAPD, the incident was assessed as an isolated case, using the following words:
"Detectives believe this is an isolated incident and currently assess there is no danger to the public."
