A fire that broke out on the foothills of Kazdağı in Kadıköy, a town in the Edremit district of Balıkesir, approached residential areas. While forest and metropolitan firefighting teams are responding to the flames, black smoke is visible from many points across the Edremit Gulf.
A fire broke out around 14:00 in Fatih Mahallesi, located at the foothills of Kaz Mountains. It was reported that the north wind reached speeds of up to 65-70 kilometers per hour in the area, and residents with homes in the region experienced moments of fear.
OLIVE GROVES BURNING
The fire was reported to be effective in olive groves as well as in the pine forest area. Many teams from the Regional Directorate of Forestry and the Fire Department of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality were dispatched to the region. While 9 planes and 6 helicopters intervened with the flames from the air, 11 water tenders and 5 water tankers were sent to the area. The gendarmerie also launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
