Pakistani media reported that a fire broke out at 06:45 local time following an explosion of an air conditioner compressor in the neonatal unit at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in the capital, Islamabad.

It was reported that 1 of the babies in the unit at the time of the fire was rescued, while 15 lost their lives. An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire.
