A sudden and severe flash flood in Nepal's Rasuwa district on the border with China has caused heavy destruction in the region. As the Bhotekoshi River overflowed, villages were submerged, and according to initial assessments, seven people have lost their lives. The disaster, which also affected the Tibetan border, has left hundreds of civilians and security personnel missing, signaling that the situation will increasingly worsen. Meanwhile, images from the region captured the destruction caused by the severe flood second by second on camera.
At least 7 people lost their lives in the severe flood disaster that struck Nepal's Rasuwa district on the Chinese border, according to initial assessments. As the Bhotekoshi River overflowed and submerged settlements, hundreds of people, including a convoy of approximately 390 people heading to the sacred Kailash Mansarovar region, remain unaccounted for. Images coming from the region have revealed the massive destruction caused by the flood.
THE SCALE OF DESTRUCTION IS ENORMOUS
According to information reported by The Kathmandu Post, the flood that hit Rasuwa, which has a mountainous structure in Bagmati Province, in the morning hours caused great damage to the region's infrastructure. Vital roads, bridges, and energy projects across the province became unusable. Due to the dangerous levels of the waters, it was announced that helicopters could not even land in the towns of Syapru Besi and Timure, where approximately fifty thousand people live, and that airborne logistical support could not be provided until the waters receded. An eyewitness describing the horror of the moment stated that everything happened within seconds, and that after a tremendous noise resembling a volcanic eruption, people fled screaming for their lives.
HUNDREDS OF CIVILIANS MISSING
The most worrying aspect of the disaster was the hundreds of people from whom no word has been received at all. It was reported that communication was completely lost with thirteen police officers serving at two different stations in the flood-hit region. The development that made the situation even more critical was that no trace could be found of the convoy of approximately three hundred ninety people who had set out to make a religious visit to the sacred Kailash Mansarovar region located in China's Tibet Autonomous Region. With a total of over four hundred missing person reports, search and rescue efforts in the region have turned into a major race against time.
LANDSLIDES ALSO OCCURRED IN TIBET
Following the tragedy, Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah, who urgently established a crisis desk, announced that search and rescue operations were launched in coordination with health teams, scouts, and the Red Cross. The Disaster Management Authority also warned citizens living in riverside settlements with an emergency alert.
Meanwhile, the disaster was not limited to Nepal alone but also hit the Chinese side. Severe landslides occurred in the town of Gyirong on the Tibet-Nepal border. According to China's state news agency, roads leading to the Shigatse region were completely closed due to the landslides, while communication and electrical infrastructure in the area collapsed.
