The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT) witnessed an unprecedented wedding ceremony in its political history. CHP Deputy Group Chair Murat Emir and CHP Istanbul Deputy Evrim Rızvanoğlu tied the knot. While this surprise marriage has been recorded as a "first" in the Assembly's records, as it involves two active deputies getting married, the first photo from the ceremony has emerged.
CHP Group Deputy Chairman and Ankara MP Murat Emir and CHP Istanbul MP Evrim Rızvanoğlu tied the knot in a special ceremony. The couple's wedding, which went down in parliamentary history, was officiated by Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner. The first photos from the couple's happy day were also shared with the press.
A FIRST IN PARLIAMENTARY HISTORY
The wedding was recorded as the first time in the history of the Turkish Grand National Assembly that two active MPs who continue their legislative duties married each other.
MURAT EMIR: A FOUR-TERM MP WITH MEDICAL AND LAW EDUCATION
Born in 1969 in the Hekimhan district of Malatya, Murat Emir has a remarkable academic background. Graduating from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine as an ophthalmologist, Emir completed his master's degree in laser physics at Heidelberg University in Germany.
After his medical education, Emir also graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law and earned a doctorate in health law, obtaining the title of Doctor of Science. Having entered CHP in his youth and quickly climbing the political ranks, Murat Emir has been serving as an Ankara MP for four terms since 2015 and has been serving as the CHP TBMM Group Deputy Chairman since April 2024.
EVRIM RIZVANOĞLU: FROM DEVA PARTY TO CHP CENTRAL EXECUTIVE BOARD
Born in 1980 in Van, Evrim Rızvanoğlu completed her higher education in the USA. Graduating from California State University and earning an MBA from Florida International University, Rızvanoğlu held management positions in the family business in her professional life.
Starting her political career as part of the founding team of DEVA Party, Rızvanoğlu served as the Deputy Chairman responsible for Nature Rights and Environmental Policies in the party. Elected as an Istanbul MP from CHP lists in the 2023 general elections, Rızvanoğlu left DEVA Party on June 27, 2025, and officially joined CHP. Evrim Rızvanoğlu currently serves as a member of the CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) and as the Deputy Chairman responsible for Nature Rights and Environmental Policies.
