Eyüp Unutur, who went to buy diapers for his child in İzmir, was first attacked by stray dogs, and then individuals who owned these animals severely beat the 25-year-old citizen with a plank and a knife.
Eyüp Unutur, the representative of the Turkey Youth Foundation (TÜGVA) in Buca, İzmir, went out to buy diapers for his child in the evening.
RAN TO A LIQUOR STORE TO ESCAPE STRAY DOGS While passing in front of a liquor store, Unutur was attacked by dogs. The 25-year-old citizen, trying to protect himself, attempted to escape into the liquor store. The people inside the liquor store threatened and attacked Unutur, who was trying to enter, demanding that he leave.
ATTACKED BY 20 PEOPLE WITH KNIVES AND WOODEN PLANKS Later, when Unutur, his brother, and his brother-in-law came to the scene to find out why they were behaving this way, they were suddenly attacked by about 20 people with knives and wooden planks as a crowd formed around the liquor store. Injured, Unutur and his family first went to the hospital and then to the police station to file a complaint. Following this incident, two individuals involved in the attack were detained and arrested.
"I WAS GOING TO THE MARKET TO BUY DIAPERS FOR MY CHILD" Eyüp Unutur, the representative of the Turkey Youth Foundation (TÜGVA) in Buca, explained that he was attacked by dogs while going to buy diapers for his child, saying, "The dogs attacked me, and while I was trying to protect myself from the dog attack, I tried to take refuge in the nearest place, which was the liquor store. I was trying to open the door, but the automatic sensor did not see me, so the door did not open. I was knocking on the door to let me in, to save me. While I was expecting some compassion from them, like 'Are you okay, brother? Is everything alright?' I was met with the opposite reaction. Because I did not have a reflex to protect myself from the animal's attack, they insulted and assaulted me. Later, a kind man opened his car door and took me to the police station. I explained the situation to the police. They said I needed to get a medical report for the assault. Then I reached my brother. My brother said, 'Let's go find out the truth of the incident and also learn why 10 people attacked you, and we went there to retrieve the phone I dropped at the scene,'" he said.
"THEY ATTACKED US" Unutur stated that he, his brother-in-law, and his brother went to the liquor store to understand the incident, saying, "As soon as we entered the liquor store, the woman inside started spraying tear gas and assaulting us. Then, about 20 people, whose origins we did not know, gathered and began attacking with knives; I was cut by a knife on my back, and at that moment, my brother was stabbed. They stabbed my brother-in-law in the chest, kidney, leg, and back. He has knife wounds about 4 centimeters deep. I received a 9-centimeter knife wound on my leg and lost consciousness. Despite losing consciousness, 15-18 people beat me with wooden planks. They were beating an unconscious person. There was no fight, it was an attack. Before I could say, 'This is my home, I was going to buy diapers for my child,' they started beating me. They were using phrases like 'How can you hit a dog, how can you respond to a woman?' They beat me until I was unconscious. We ended up in the hospital," he said.
"I FILED A COMPLAINT" Unutur expressed that they filed a complaint, saying, "The dogs are still there now. But there are also those who filed complaints before me. There have been judicial incidents here before. The neighborhood is disturbed by the liquor store and the dogs. I could have left an orphan behind. I could have died. My spine is being grazed by a knife, it is not stuck. If it had been stuck, I would have definitely died. The footage is quite clear. There is a case of intentional manslaughter. We will continue our struggle in every way so that other people do not die and do not end up in my situation," he said.
LAWYER LEYYANUR ADSOY : TWO PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED Lawyer Leyyanur Adsoy, stating that her client was attacked while going to the market, said, "He enters the liquor store, which he sees as the closest and safest place. There, he is also subjected to violence. My client is attacked with knives by about 20 people, followed by his brother and brother-in-law. The fact that the issue goes beyond street animals, while my client is being beaten with a plank and a knife, and they are saying, 'Did you hit the dog, did you say go away to the dog?' is very distressing. The real issue here is my client's life and right to live. We demand that the municipality take immediate action in this area and collect the stray street animals. Because my client is not the first, and it does not seem like he will be the last. Complaints have been made repeatedly, and requests for their collection have been made. However, at this point, my client and his family were in danger of losing their lives. We demand that the necessary actions be taken at this point, and we are already following up on the case. Two people have been arrested in connection with the process. However, the woman inside the liquor store, who was the instigator of the incident, was released after being detained. After that, her first action was to go and delete the camera recordings related to the incident from the neighbor's house," she said.
