The appointment of a trustee to the Mediterranean Municipality in Mersin and the arrest of DEM Party co-mayors Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan, along with municipal council members, was protested at the Özgür Çocuk Park. 5 PEOPLE DETAINEDAfter the press statement, the police set up a barricade to prevent the group from marching to the municipal building. During this time, a dispute occurred between the police and DEM Party MPs Perihan Koca and Ali Bozan. As a result of the scuffle between the protesters and the police, 5 people were detained. "WE WON THE MUNICIPALITY STITCH BY STITCH"Reacting to the police's obstruction of the march, MP Perihan Koca stated, "We won that municipality stitch by stitch. We will not allow you to plunder the people's resources," while MP Ali Bozan responded, "Those who have been taking sick leave and not coming to work for 9 months are now in the municipality. We know what is happening in the Mediterranean Municipality." "THIS IS A BLOW TO OUR PEOPLE'S HOPE FOR PEACE"DEM Party Mersin Provincial Chair Bedriye Kuş also stated in her speech: "The appointment of a trustee to the Mediterranean Municipality aims to prevent our democratic, social, and women’s liberation-oriented local governance understanding from meeting with the peoples of Turkey. The appointment of a trustee to our Mediterranean Municipality is not only a usurpation of the will of the Mediterranean people, who live together in peace with many peoples, cultures, and beliefs, but this coup is also a blow to our people's hope for peace. Once again, we condemn this attack on democracy and the people's will. The Ministry of Interior has prepared a pretext by using the judiciary and security forces as a tool to legitimize the appointment of a trustee to the Mediterranean Municipality. This is a complete usurpation of will. This is a political coup. Trustee appointments are a systematic blow not only to the will of the Kurdish people but also to the struggle for democracy across Turkey."
