In the case regarding the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, the defendant, Enes Güran, the brother of the victim, has filed an appeal to the regional appellate court against the aggravated life sentence he received for "intentional murder of a child in complicity." A similar appeal has also been made for the mother, Yüksel Güran.

In the case of the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, a petition for appeal was submitted to the 8th Heavy Criminal Court, where the trial is being held, by Mahir Akbilek, one of the lawyers of the defendant, brother Enes Güran, to be sent to the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeal.

The petition reminded that in the decision hearing of the case seen at the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Criminal Court on December 28, 2024, Güran was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional murder of a child in participation."

In the conclusion and request section of the petition, the following statements were included: "The decision given by the first instance court must be annulled in favor of my client as a result of the appeal examination to be held with a hearing. I request a verdict of acquittal for my client; if this is not possible, I request the annulment of the local court's decision. I also request that a release order be issued for my client in a manner deemed appropriate, otherwise, I request the application of all legal provisions in favor of my client."

PENALTIES GIVEN TO THE DEFENDANTS

In the decision hearing of the case seen at the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Criminal Court on December 28, 2024, the detained defendants, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, were each sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional murder of a child in participation," while Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence." The reasoned decision of 944 pages was announced on January 23.

APPLICATION MADE FOR THE MOTHER AS WELL

Previously, Yılmaz Demiroğlu, the lawyer of Narin Güran's mother, Yüksel Güran, had also filed an appeal with the 8th Heavy Criminal Court to be submitted to the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeal. In the petition, it was requested that the decision regarding Yüksel Güran be annulled and that she be released.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Narin Güran, who went missing in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on August 21, was found dead in the Eğertutmaz stream on September 8.

As part of the investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 12 out of 23 suspects, including mother Yüksel, brother Enes, uncle Salim Güran, and their neighbor Nevzat Bahtiyar, were arrested.

The investigation against Yüksel, Enes, and Salim Güran, as well as Nevzat Bahtiyar, was completed, and an indictment prepared with a request for aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional murder of a child in participation" was accepted by the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Criminal Court on October 23.

The trial of the defendants began on November 7 last year, and the first hearing, which lasted three days, was postponed to December 26, 2024, with a decision to continue the detention of the defendants.

After the first hearing, the public prosecutor submitted a 14-page opinion to the court during the interim session.

The final hearing, held on December 29, 2024, resulted in a decision being announced.
