The last images of Nihat Pancar from Hatay, who went missing when the ship sank off the coast of Girne in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, have emerged. In the footage taken as the ship began taking on water, moments of Pancar sitting in his seat were captured.
A Turkish catamaran passenger ship capsized while departing from the TRNC to Mersin's Taşucu Port on Sunday, August 30. In the accident, 8 people died, and 241 passengers were rescued. Search efforts for the 20 missing passengers continue. Footage has emerged of the final moments on the ship of Nihat Pancar (51), from Hatay Samandağ, who is among the missing passengers.
CAUGHT ON CAMERA AT THE MOMENT OF DISASTER
In a recording made with a mobile phone camera by a person as the ship was taking on water, Pancar is seen entering the frame. At the moment when the person filming says that the ship is taking on water and that authorities need to address the situation, Pancar is seen sitting calmly in his seat. It was learned that the person who took the footage was among those rescued in the accident.
After the footage emerged, his wife, Özlem Pancar, stated that she maintains hope that he is alive and said they are waiting for news from him.
