It has been reported that 12 people lost their lives according to initial assessments in forest fires that broke out in provinces in eastern Algeria.

According to the Algerian press, Algerian Interior Minister Said Sayut made statements regarding the fires affecting the eastern part of the country.

12 PEOPLE KILLED

Sayut stated that, according to the provisional toll, 12 people lost their lives due to the fires. Providing information on the distribution of fatalities by province, Sayut reported that 4 people died in Bejaia, 5 in Jijel, and 3 in the province of Tizi Ouzou.

FIREFIGHTING EFFORTS CONTINUE

It was stated that efforts to extinguish the fires in the region are ongoing. In a statement made yesterday by the Algerian Civil Defense General Directorate, it was reported that 21 of the 58 forest fires caused by the heat wave affecting the region had been brought under control, and response efforts were continuing for 37 fires.
