A worker cleaning the streets in Beyoğlu noticed a person lying motionless in the area between the sidewalk and a building. Upon notification, health teams who arrived at the scene identified the body as belonging to Ertan Tunca (57). Tunca, believed to have died from a broken neck due to a fall, was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute Morgue. Security camera footage emerged showing Tunca struggling to maintain his balance while walking before the incident.
FOUND WHILE CLEANING THE STREET
The incident occurred around 06:20 on Monday, July 27, in the Fetihtepe neighborhood. According to available information, Özay Aydın (25), a municipal cleaning worker, noticed a person lying face down and motionless in the area between the sidewalk and a building while cleaning the street. Following Aydın's report, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene.
INITIAL FINDING: FALL FROM HEIGHT
During the health teams' checks, it was determined that the body belonged to Ertan Tunca and that Tunca had died at the scene. Initial examinations indicated that Tunca’s neck was broken due to a fall from a height, with no signs of assault or sharp object injuries found on his body, and that the incident may have occurred approximately 5-6 hours earlier.
HIS LAST MOMENTS EMERGED
During the police teams' examination of nearby cameras, security camera footage emerged showing Ertan Tunca walking on the street before the incident. The footage shows Tunca, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, struggling to maintain his balance and walking unsteadily.
SUSPICIOUS DEATH INVESTIGATION
After the work of the Public Prosecutor and crime scene investigation teams, Ertan Tunca’s body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute Morgue to determine the exact cause of death. Police teams launched an investigation into the incident under the scope of a suspicious death. It was also learned that Ertan Tunca had three records at the police station for the crimes of 'Endangering traffic safety' and 'Property damage'.
