Four days remain until new regulations affecting millions of online shoppers come into effect. Starting August 1st, new price rules against fake discounts will be implemented, product reviews will be subject to stricter oversight, advertisements created with artificial intelligence must be clearly disclosed, and advertising transparency will be mandatory in influencer posts.

There are 4 days left until the new regulations prepared by the Ministry of Trade, aiming to protect consumers more effectively against misleading advertisements and unfair commercial practices, come into effect. As of August 1st, significant changes affecting both sellers and millions of citizens shopping online in the e-commerce sector will be implemented.

NEW REGULATION ON FAKE DISCOUNTS

In the new period, the reference price for discounted sales advertisements will change. Accordingly, when announcing a product's discounted price, the lowest price applied in the last 10 days before the start of the discount will be taken as the basis. This aims to prevent practices where prices are first raised and then shown as heavily discounted.

FAKE REVIEWS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

Product reviews and rating systems on e-commerce sites will also be subject to new rules. Businesses will be obligated to establish systems that verify published evaluations are based on actual shopping experiences. Highlighting or manipulating reviews that could mislead consumers will be prevented.

AI ADVERTISEMENTS MUST BE CLEARLY INDICATED

If digital characters created using artificial intelligence and difficult to distinguish from real persons are used in advertisements, this must be clearly disclosed to consumers. The regulation aims to make AI-supported advertisements more transparent.

STRICT MONITORING OF INFLUENCER POSTS

Social media content creators and influencers will have to clearly and understandably indicate that paid promotions are advertisements. Content of an advertising nature will not be allowed to be concealed.

THE GOAL IS TO PROTECT CONSUMERS

The new regulations aim to increase transparency in digital advertisements, prevent misleading campaigns, and create a more reliable shopping environment in e-commerce. The rules will begin to be implemented as of August 1st.
