In an operation conducted on a cell house identified in Istanbul’s Kağıthane district, 4 suspects alleged to have been preparing to assassinate a well-known businessman were detained. An AK-47 long-barreled rifle, an unlicensed pistol, and a large amount of ammunition were seized at the address. It was alleged that the suspects came to Istanbul from out of town and were preparing for an attack in the house they rented. The investigation is ongoing.
Work carried out regarding incidents that occurred on different dates in Kağıthane and Eyüpsultan uncovered a safe house used by the suspects. It was alleged that the targets of the detained suspects included a businessperson known in sports, arts and society circles as well as the business world.
FIELD WORK LED TO THE SAFE HOUSE
Teams of the Istanbul Police Department Public Order Branch Directorate launched field work regarding incidents that occurred on different dates in Kağıthane and Eyüpsultan. As a result of the work, a safe house used by the suspects was identified in Kağıthane.
In the operation carried out at the identified address on November 3, B.A., S.D., T.İ. and A.E. were caught and detained.
AK-47 AND UNLICENSED HANDGUN SEIZED
During searches at the address, an AK-47 long-barreled rifle, 3 magazines belonging to this rifle and 50 rounds of 7.62-millimeter ammunition were found. In addition, an unlicensed 9-millimeter handgun, 2 magazines and 71 rounds of 9-millimeter ammunition were seized.
CLAIM THAT THEY TARGETED A WELL-KNOWN BUSINESSPERSON
It was alleged that the suspects came to Istanbul from out of town with the aim of carrying out an assassination and were preparing for an act in the house they rented. It was claimed that the targets of the suspects included a businessperson known in sports, arts and society circles as well as the business world. The identity of the businessperson was not disclosed.
CRIMINAL RECORDS ARE EXTENSIVE
In examinations, it was determined that B.A. had an outstanding arrest warrant. It was learned that S.D. had 4 arrest warrants and a finalized prison sentence of 12 years and 15 months, while T.İ. had 2 arrest warrants and a finalized prison sentence of 7 years and 6 months.
It was also determined that A.E. had 4 arrest warrants, 31 criminal records and a finalized prison sentence of 10 years, 32 months and 99 days. The investigation into the 4 detained suspects is ongoing.
