Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Chief Advisor to the President, and AK Party Ankara MP, reacted to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz’s remarks targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and threatening Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya with death. Calling Katz’s statements “impertinent,” Oktay said, “Peace and diplomacy cannot be obstructed by the language of threats.”

Reactions from Ankara continue to Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz’s post targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Most recently, Fuat Oktay condemned Katz’s words “in the strongest terms.”

KATZ TARGETED ERDOĞAN

In a post on his social media account X, Israeli Defense Minister Katz targeted President Erdoğan. Claiming that Erdoğan supports Hamas officials, Katz alleged that Türkiye, together with the Muslim Brotherhood, supports activities against Israel. Katz said, “Erdoğan continues to roll out the red carpet for Hamas’s murderers and rapists.”

HE THREATENED A HAMAS OFFICIAL WITH DEATH

In the same post, Katz, also targeting Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya, claimed that they had eliminated Hamas leaders in Gaza. Katz said, “Al-Hayya’s turn will come too; he will also be sent to the depths of hell.”

OKTAY: WE CONDEMN THE INSOLENT STATEMENTS

Reacting to Katz’s words on his X account, Fuat Oktay said, “We condemn in the strongest terms the insolent statements by Israel Katz, the Zionist Defense Minister of genocidal and occupying Israel, against our esteemed President.”

Oktay said, “Katz’s openly threatening with death the actors who assume responsibility in peace and ceasefire processes is a grave indication of murderous Israel’s understanding that disregards international law, human rights, and diplomatic norms. Peace and diplomacy cannot be prevented by threatening language.”

Fuat Oktay's post is as follows:

“Peace and diplomacy cannot be prevented by threatening language.

We condemn in the strongest terms the insolent statements by Israel Katz, the Zionist Defense Minister of genocidal and occupying Israel, against our esteemed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Katz’s openly threatening with death the actors who assume responsibility in peace and ceasefire processes is a grave indication of murderous Israel’s understanding that disregards international law, human rights, and diplomatic norms. Peace and diplomacy cannot be prevented by threatening language.

If the Israeli government thinks it can cover up the growing reactions in its own country and its deepening political crisis with insolent statements against Türkiye and our esteemed President, it is greatly mistaken.

Türkiye will continue to resolutely defend the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, their struggle for justice, and the establishment of lasting peace in the region under the leadership of our esteemed President.

SUCCESSIVE REACTIONS FROM ANKARA

AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik and Communications Director Burhanettin Duran had also previously reacted to Katz’s words. Describing Katz’s statements as “vulgar and insolent,” Çelik said, “Türkiye will not bow to any threat, provocation, or blackmail.”

Duran, meanwhile, stated that Katz’s words were “an indication of political desperation” ahead of the elections in Israel. Duran emphasized that threatening people involved in ceasefire and peace talks is an “irresponsible approach.”
