Ilker Gönen, a defendant in the Newborn Gang case who committed suicide in the prison where he was held, was laid to rest in Istanbul. A wreath in the mosque courtyard caught attention, reading, "Rest in peace, may our heads be held high. Graduates of Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Training and Research Hospital."
A funeral ceremony was held for İlker Gönen, one of the defendants of the "Newborn Gang," who committed suicide in the prison where he was held in Antalya, in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul. İlker Gönen's lawyer, Aydın Mantar, stated to the press, "We will also follow the process."
The funeral ceremony at Hacı Ömer Çetinsaya Mosque in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, was attended by İlker Gönen's family members. Family members wept as they embraced the coffin. After the prayer, the funeral was taken to the cemetery for burial. The wreath in the mosque's garden had a note that read, "Rest in peace, may our condolences be accepted. Graduates of Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Training and Research Hospital."
"FIRST FINDINGS INDICATE SUICIDE"
İlker Gönen's lawyer, Aydın Mantar, said, "I will definitely make a statement. The initial findings indicate suicide. It is not possible for us to say anything without seeing the documents and without the forensic process being carried out. We will also follow the process."
