The government in Romania has fallen after failing to secure a vote of confidence. The motion of no confidence to topple the government led by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, initiated by the center-left Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the far-right Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), was approved by a majority vote.

There was a government crisis in Romania. In the vote held in the Romanian Parliament, 281 of the 402 deputies who attended the session voted "yes" for the no-confidence motion.

BOLOJAN GOVERNMENT FALLS

The no-confidence motion submitted to parliament by the largest party in Romania, the PSD, along with the far-right AUR and PACE-Romania Priority, was approved by a majority vote. Thus, the current Bolojan government was ousted. Local media reports stated that Bolojan left the parliament during the vote.

It was reported that the no-confidence motion was prepared under the title "Stop the 'Bolojan Plan' that damages the economy, impoverishes the people, and aims to fraudulently sell state assets." Romanian President Nicușor Dan also stated in a statement before the vote that regardless of the outcome, his country would maintain its "Western orientation."

REMOVED FROM OFFICE BEFORE 1 YEAR

In Romania, the government under Prime Minister Bolojan had taken office after receiving a vote of confidence in parliament in June 2025.

On April 20, the PSD announced its decision to withdraw political support for Prime Minister Bolojan, and on April 23, seven PSD ministers in the cabinet resigned. Following these steps, the AUR also expressed its opposition to the current government and announced that it had prepared a no-confidence motion together with the PSD.
