Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi shared the tragic news with the public via his social media account. Minister Çiftçi stated that they learned with deep sorrow of the martyrdom of Highway Team Commander Gendarmerie Master Sergeant Yusuf Ergün, who was injured in a horrific accident on the Ankara-Niğde Highway, and offered his condolences to Allah for the martyr, and to his grieving family and the gendarmerie organization.
LOST HIS LIFE TRYING TO SAVE DRIVERS' LIVES
The incident occurred at the 48th kilometer of the Ankara-Niğde Highway. Master Sergeant Yusuf Ergün, assigned to the Gökçehüyük Highway Gendarmerie Station Command, swiftly arrived at the scene upon a report of foreign objects on the highway that could endanger traffic. While the heroic sergeant was trying to clear tire debris from the road to prevent drivers from causing accidents, he was hit by a car with license plate 34 AJB 073, driven by E.Ç.K. (34).
WILL BE BIDDED FAREWELL IN HIS HOMETOWN KIRIKKALE
The tragic news of the single sergeant, who was severely injured by the impact and fell as a martyr at Gölbaşı State Hospital, reached his family in Kırıkkale. The martyr's father's home was adorned with Turkish flags, while relatives and citizens flocked to the house to offer condolences. The funeral of Martyr Yusuf Ergün will be laid to rest with prayers in the Kırıkkale Martyrs' Memorial Cemetery, following a funeral prayer to be held at Nur Mosque tomorrow after the noon prayer.
