In the Greek press, concerns have been expressed that "the importance of Greece from the perspective of the United States may decrease, particularly with regard to the Port of Alexandroupoli," in the event of the end of the war in Ukraine.
In an evaluation article titled "Athens' Concerns on the Ukraine Issue" published in the Greece-based Kathimerini newspaper, striking expressions were noted.
"OUR IMPORTANCE FOR THE US DECREASES" CONCERN
The article stated that the end of the war in Ukraine could have a series of side effects. It was reminded that for about 3 years, the Port of Alexandroupoli has been used as a transit point for NATO soldiers and weapons heading to NATO's eastern flank and Ukraine, and it was noted that with the end of the war, the importance of this port could also decrease.
"IT BRINGS QUESTIONS ALONG"
The evaluation included the statement, "Although Americans are planning new investments in Alexandroupoli, the end of hostile attitudes towards Ukraine raises questions about whether the importance of the Port in supporting NATO's eastern flank will decrease."
"ATHENS WILL APPROACH WITH DISTANCE"
In the evaluation, it was reminded that Turkey supports a two-state solution regarding the Cyprus issue, and it was expressed that Athens would approach the redrawing of Ukraine's borders with distance.
