12 ARRESTS IN THE GÜLİSTAN DOKU INVESTIGATION

The family of Gülistan Doku (21), a university student in Tunceli, who had not heard from her since January 5, 2020, traveled from their hometown Diyarbakır to Tunceli and filed a missing person report with the police on January 6, 2020. The search efforts yielded no results.

Based on new information, the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation on charges of "intentional killing," "sexual assault," "concealing or destroying evidence of a crime," "unlawfully entering an information system to delete or corrupt data," "deprivation of liberty," "failure to report a crime," and "harboring a criminal." As part of this investigation, 17 suspects were taken into custody.

FORMER GOVERNOR AND HIS SON AMONG THOSE ARRESTED

Among the suspects, former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, his son Mustafa Türkay Sonel, former police officer Gökhan Ertok who allegedly deleted data from Doku's SIM card, former Tunceli State Hospital Chief Physician Çağdaş Özdemir who allegedly deleted hospital records, former Tunceli Special Provincial Administration employee Erdoğan Elaldı, Celal Altaş, Nurşen Arıkan, Ferhat Hanedan Güven, Doku's boyfriend Zeinal Abakarov, her mother Cemile Yücer, her stepfather and former police officer Engin Yücer, and Şükrü Eroğlu, who served as Tuncay Sonel's protection officer at the time, were arrested. Uğurcan A., Munzur University security camera supervisor Savaş G., Süleyman Ö., and Tunceli State Hospital IT staff B.Y. and Y.E. were released under judicial control with a travel ban.

A red notice was issued for fugitive suspect Umut Altaş, who was found to be abroad. As part of the investigation against former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, former Tunceli Police Chief Yılmaz Delen gave a statement as a witness in Erzurum.
