A person wandering around cafes and shops in Taksim committed thefts from citizens' bags and clothes. Following complaints, the teams took action and apprehended the suspect. It was determined that the suspect, who tried to conceal himself by wearing different clothes in each incident and whose relaxed demeanor drew attention, had five prior criminal records.
On January 25, Saturday, around 11:30 AM, a series of theft incidents occurred on Istiklal Street in Taksim, a district of Beyoğlu, Istanbul. The suspicious individual, who was wandering around cafes and stores, stole from citizens' bags and clothes. Upon receiving an increasing number of complaints, the Istanbul Security Teams Branch B Regional Security Teams Command took action and examined the security camera footage.
CHANGED DISGUISE IN EVERY INCIDENT
The police determined that the suspect wore different clothes in each incident, and identified the suspect, who displayed relaxed behavior, as Kenan S. (31), who has 5 criminal records. In ongoing operations, the suspect was caught and detained in Beyoğlu. Some stolen items, a sum of money, and materials used for camouflage were seized from the suspect.
ARRESTED
The suspect Kenan S., who was taken to the police station, was referred to the courthouse after his statement was taken and judicial procedures were completed. The suspect, who was brought before the court, was arrested and sent to prison for the crimes of "pickpocketing," "theft from a workplace," "theft in the open," and "abuse of trust."
STOLE FROM A LOANED JACKET
Meanwhile, the moments of the theft were recorded second by second by security cameras. In the footage, a woman approached the suspect who was wandering in the store, took off her jacket, and handed it to the suspect. While the woman was trying on another jacket, the suspect was seen rummaging through the pockets of the jacket and stealing something. Additionally, moments when the suspect stole from a citizen's bag at a workplace and from the pocket of a citizen's jacket while sitting in a café were captured on camera.
