During the downpour that affected Yalova last week, Governor Ahmet Hamdi Usta visited 65-year-old Remziye Kurşun, who cleaned the leaves clogging the drain on the street where her house is located. Governor Usta, who gave Kurşun flowers, thanked her for her sensitivity. The moments when Kurşun cleaned the drain were captured on camera.
Remziye Kurşun, 65, who used her cane to clear a storm drain clogged during rainfall in Yalova, hosted Governor Ahmet Hamdi Usta at her home after the footage shared on social media.
SHE CLEARED THE DRAIN CLOGGED WITH LEAVES
On October 14-15, when the downpour was effective in the city, Remziye Kurşun noticed that the drain on Kazımiye Street, where her home in the city center is located, was filled with leaves. To prevent the rainwater drainage from being blocked, Kurşun went to the drain and cleared the accumulated leaves. Those moments were recorded by those around with a mobile phone camera.
GOVERNOR USTA: I FELT PROUD
After the footage became a trending topic, Yalova Governor Ahmet Hamdi Usta visited Remziye Kurşun at her home. Presenting flowers to Kurşun, Governor Usta thanked her for her sensitivity during the rainfall. Usta said, "What was done is not just a drain cleaning. It is such a meaningful act that it reminds us who we are and what we need to do. I felt proud and happy with this act, which should set an example for everyone."
"I DID MY DUTY AS A CITIZEN"
Remziye Kurşun, on the other hand, described what happened that day as follows:
"I had gone to the hospital that day, and when I returned, I saw that the drain was clogged. It was rippling like a lake. I cleared the blockage with the help of my cane. Anyone would have done the same. I also set an example for everyone. I did my duty as a citizen. I recommend everyone to do it too."
