Two years ago in Ankara, English teacher Eyüp Sağlık (60) who was subjected to disrespectful behavior by his student while teaching, had defended his student who drew attention with his behavior by saying "A Turkish child cannot be lost due to a mistake. I have forgiven him. He is our child, we cannot abandon him" with his words. Sağlık, who warmed hearts with his tolerant behavior, was seriously injured and taken to the intensive care unit three months ago after falling from the balcony of his apartment on the third floor. Despite all interventions, the retired teacher could not be saved and was laid to rest today.

"HE IS OUR CHILD, WE CANNOT ABANDON HIM"

Eyüp Sağlık (60), who worked as an English teacher at a private school in Sincan district of Ankara in March 2022, had been subjected to disrespectful behavior by a student who wanted to become famous on social media. The moments recorded by another student had received great reaction and an investigation was initiated by the Ankara Provincial Directorate of National Education regarding the incident. Sağlık, who spoke to journalists who reached out to him after the incident, had defended his student and said that he had forgiven him. Sağlık, who received great appreciation with his exemplary behavior, had stated in an interview that there might have been a mistake on his part as well: "We are adults and educators, of course. A Turkish child cannot be lost due to a mistake. Everyone has made mistakes in the past. This child did not apply violence, yes, he made actions that hurt the teacher and the profession, but the child is not conscious. I have forgiven him. I met with him and his parent. He is our child, we cannot abandon him. We have failed to teach this child what he should do. I am saying this for myself, not for my colleagues. I have failed to teach."

FELL FROM THE BALCONY DUE TO SLIPPING

After this incident, Sağlık, who became known throughout the country, fell from the balcony of his house about 3 months ago while cleaning and was seriously injured as a result. It was learned that his left arm lost its function, there was a collapse in his lung, and he had fractures in various parts of his body. After his 3-week treatment at Sincan Education and Research Hospital, he was transferred to Etlik City Hospital and received further treatment. However, due to his condition constantly deteriorating and the heart attack he had, he passed away.

LAID TO REST AMID TEARS

The funeral prayer for the deceased retired teacher was performed at Merkez Mosque in Körler Neighborhood in Çamlıdere district of Ankara after the noon prayer. Sağlık was buried in the district cemetery amidst tears after the funeral prayer.
