Fatma Kovan, who claims she left her life behind and moved to Mardin for A.K., whom she met online while living in Bodrum, later fled with her 1-year-old daughter, who was intended to be betrothed. Fatma Kovan, a woman living in the Bodrum district of Muğla, started a romantic relationship with A.K., whom she met online in 2019. After dating for a while, the couple decided to have a religious marriage. Subsequently, Kovan moved to Kayacık village in the Derik district of Mardin, where A.K. lived.
SHE CLOSED HER RESTAURANT AND GAVE HER APARTMENT During this process, Kovan closed her restaurant due to her religiously married husband A.K.'s belief that 'women should not work.' During this time, Kovan also gave her apartment to A.K., who claimed he could not take out a loan, and lost her property as a result.
"IF A PERSON CANNOT TRUST THEIR SPOUSE, WHO CAN THEY TRUST?" Fatma Kovan, who was a guest on Nilüfer Kutlu's show on tv100, described her victimization with the following words: "First of all, I am a woman, I am a mother. My struggle will never end. I met him in 2019 and loved him very much. People ask me, how did you trust this person? This person was very different when he came to Bodrum to be with me, and very different in Mardin. All my previous title deed records can be investigated. This person claims that I bought my apartment with a loan in 2017. I bought my apartment with my cash. I had a plot of land, and he made me sell it. I lost my father at a very young age, and I lost my brother at a very young age. My grandmother raised me. If a person cannot trust their spouse, who can they trust? He was begging me, 'Don't let go of my hand,' and he cried whenever I tried to leave. He took advantage of all my weaknesses. I have everything documented. Why would a person download a voice recording app on their phone?
"IT WAS OBVIOUS FROM THE BEGINNING THAT HE WOULD DEFRAUD ME" I never had a restaurant, an apartment, or any real estate before. I had a plot of land in Milas. I had inherited property from my grandfather. I had assets coming from Denizli. After this person entered my life, the properties he defrauded from me were my apartment, my plot of land in Miras Beyciler, and my villa. I bought my apartment in 2017 with cash. After this person entered my life, he first made me close my restaurant. He said, 'In our culture, women do not work,' so we closed the restaurant. I stayed there for 3.5 years. I lived in a village with 4 households. And all of this person's family was coming and going to my house. The court placed a precautionary measure on the properties. The voice recordings and these documents have also come into our hands. It was obvious from the beginning that he would defraud me. I am pursuing my struggle, and I trust the Turkish justice system."
WILL SHE BE ABLE TO RECOVER HER LOSSES? Lawyer Kadriye Güçlü Sakarya stated that if this situation is proven, Fatma Kovan's assets could be transferred to her. Sakarya also added, "I would like to point out that if a person is deceived with a promise of marriage and is exploited materially and spiritually, if the marriage does not happen, that person has the right to compensation. The transfer of assets between couples with mutual consent does not fall under the scope of fraud. If you are calling it fraud, you must prove it."
