In the Uzunköprü district of Edirne, 36-year-old Uğur Tarak, who is on trial for the murder of his 35-year-old wife Cansu Tarak with 15 knife wounds, is facing a request for two life sentences. In his defense, he stated, "I am very sorry for the incident; I was provoked because I was deceived. I loved my wife very much."

In the Uzunköprü district of Edirne, Uğur Tarak, who has three children, and his wife Cansu had an argument in their home on Hızır Street in the Aşçıoğlu neighborhood last July. During the argument, Uğur Tarak stabbed his wife in the abdomen and arms. The young woman, who was taken to the hospital, could not be saved despite the doctors' intervention.

SOCIAL MEDIA POST CAUGHT ATTENTION

It was recorded that shortly before the incident, Uğur Tarak shared on his social media account, "You were my companion on this life path, you turned into a stranger, you were my confidant with whom I shared all my troubles, you turned into a stranger, you were the fire that burned my heart with love, you turned to ash, I have nothing to do with the ungrateful, the heartless, and the merciless."

STABBED HER 15 TIMES

After the murder, Uğur Tarak was arrested, and a case was opened against him at the Edirne 1st Heavy Penal Court for 'killing with monstrous feelings or torture' and 'intentional killing of his spouse' with a request for aggravated life imprisonment. The indictment stated that Uğur Tarak stabbed his wife 15 times, 11 of which were fatal.

"I BOUGHT HER A NEW PHONE AND SIM CARD"

Tarak stated in his defense included in the indictment: "There was no previous hostility between us. We had no incidents that went to court. However, about a month ago, my little daughter saw a message sent from my wife's phone to another number saying 'good morning my dear' and showed it to me, so I asked her about it. She could not provide any explanation. She said nothing about this incident. That's why I called Cansu's mother and told her to come and take their daughter. They came and took her. During this process, I filed for divorce from Cansu. This case was opened due to infidelity. However, during this time, Cansu sent me messages saying she regretted it and did not want a divorce, that she wanted to reconcile. I even bought her a new phone and SIM card. She had asked me for these.

"I WAS PROVOKED BECAUSE I WAS CHEATED ON"

We talked for a while. I went to pick her up so that my family wouldn't fall apart. I brought her home, but things started to go wrong at home. On the day of the incident, we started arguing. She came at me with a knife. I took the knife from Cansu's hand to protect myself. Then, in a way I don't understand, I remember stabbing her once in the abdomen. I don't remember the other stab wounds you mentioned. It could have happened during the struggle; I don't remember stabbing her in the back. I may have been disoriented due to the severity of the incident. I am very sorry for what happened; I was provoked because I was cheated on. I loved my wife very much."

Today, the hearing held at the Edirne 1st Heavy Penal Court was attended by the arrested defendant Uğur Tarak, the mother of the deceased Cansu Tarak, Nurcan Çimen, relatives, and the lawyers of the parties. After Tarak made his defense, it was decided to continue his detention, and the hearing was adjourned.

"THE OTHER SIDE IS TRYING TO DEFEND ITSELF WITH SLANDER"

After the hearing, Cansu Tarak's family's lawyer, Berker Güzel, made a statement. Güzel stated that they wanted the defendant to receive the maximum penalty, saying, "My client's and her family's request is for the defendant to be punished to the fullest extent. An attempt is being made to create a perception as if there was a non-existent infidelity situation. Our effort is to prevent this from being created. Our discussions here are all about proving this. However, of course, the other side is also trying to defend itself with different claims, unfortunately, with accusations that amount to slander. We expect the support of the media and the public on this matter," he said.

"HE KILLED MY DAUGHTER WITH 15 STAB WOUNDS"

Nurcan Çimen, Tarak's mother, stated that she wanted the defendant to receive the heaviest sentence, saying, "I am calling out to the Republic of Turkey. He shot my child for no reason. I am waiting for justice. I want to make my voice heard to the Republic of Turkey. Please, I want him to be tried with life imprisonment. He killed my daughter. She was brutally and savagely killed with 15 stab wounds," she said.

"NO WOMAN DESERVES TO DIE"

Candan Topçu, Tarak's cousin, said, "Cansu Tarak is my uncle's daughter. Her husband brutally killed her. No woman deserves to die. Enough is enough; we need to stop femicides. Let everyone hear our voice. No woman deserves to die.

They say he deceived, but there is no deception at all. There is absolutely nothing, no evidence. We seek justice, we trust our justice. We want Uğur Tarak to receive the heaviest life sentence possible.
