A 20-year-old suspect, who entered a chain store in Bolu and threatened the cashier before stealing the money from the register, stated in court that he had painted the knife he took from home with red pastel to make it look like it was covered in blood.
On October 2, 2024, at night, I.D. (20) entered a chain supermarket located in the Kültür neighborhood of Bolu. After wandering around the market for a while, I.D. headed to the cash register. I.D. threatened the cashier with a knife he had with him and demanded money from the cash register. After taking a certain amount of money from the cash register, I.D. then left the supermarket. The suspect was caught and taken into custody two hours after the incident as a result of a tip-off.
ROBBER IN COURT FOR THE FIRST TIME
A case was opened against the defendant at the Bolu 1st High Criminal Court on charges of "deprivation of liberty, robbery at a workplace, and damage to property." The hearing was attended by the defendant I.D., who was under house arrest, the victim cashier D.İ., and the supermarket manager S.Ç.
"I PUT RED PASTEL PAINT ON THE KNIFE"
During the hearing, the defendant I.D. stated, "I entered the supermarket and took 700 TL from the cash register. I took a knife with me when I left home and put red pastel paint on it to scare people. I entered the supermarket, and the knife was in my pocket at that moment. After wandering around the market for a while, I went to the cashier D.İ. I showed the knife and asked him to take out the money from the cash register. He gave me 700 TL from the cash register in fear. Then we went towards the supermarket's office together with the cashier. There was another woman inside who was counting money. I showed them the knife and told them to give me the money. After taking the counted money, I also asked for the money from the big cash register. The counted money was around 2,000 TL, while there was 70-100 TL in the big cash register. Then I told both of them to go into the bathroom inside the office and lock the door on them. At that moment, there was another 13,000 TL in another cash register, but I didn't take it because I lost time. After damaging the computers in the office with the knife, I left the supermarket. I covered the damages. Recently, I had problems with my family, and I was experiencing psychological and financial difficulties. I didn't have a mask on my face during the incident. I regret what I did and accept that it was wrong. I request my acquittal." he said.
"WE RAN TO THE BATHROOM AND LOCKED THE DOOR"
Cashier D.S. stated, "The defendant came to the cash register with a few products and after leaving them, he took out the knife and said, 'Be quiet.' I stepped back in fear. First, he took the money from the cash register, then he wanted to take me to the office. When we entered the office, there was no other woman counting money inside; the defendant is not telling the truth about this. At that moment, our store manager S.Ç. was in the office. The defendant was holding the knife behind me. When my manager saw the knife, thinking that he was going to stab me, he gave all the money. There was only one cash register in the office, there were not two. The defendant took the money on the table himself. I don't know exactly how much money he took because I couldn't pay attention due to the shock of the incident. My manager tried to calm the defendant down. Later, we ran to the bathroom and locked the door from the inside. The defendant did not force us to do this. After we entered the bathroom, my manager called the police, and I called for help through the KADES application." she stated.
"I THOUGHT MY STAFF WAS STABBED WHEN I SAW THE KNIFE"
Store manager S.Ç. expressed that he thought the staff was stabbed, saying, "I was working in the office during the incident. When I looked up, the defendant and D.İ. entered. The defendant said, 'Take out the money.' The knife was red. He said, 'Give me the money, I won't harm you.' He took the money on the table and then forcibly opened the cash register. When I saw that the knife was red, I thought he had stabbed my staff, and that's why I couldn't react. The defendant started to damage the computers with the knife. Upon this, D.İ. and I entered the bathroom and locked the door from the inside. D.İ. called for help through the KADES application, and I called the police." he said.
"I TOLD THE DEFENDANT 'I HAVE A BABY,' AND HE HUGGED ME"
Store manager S.Ç. also stated that after telling the defendant that he had a small child, the defendant hugged him, saying, "I told the defendant that I have a small baby. I said, 'You are young, don't burn yourself.' The defendant hugged me to calm me down and said, 'I won't harm you.' However, I am complaining about him due to the material damage he caused to my store and the damage to the computers." After the defense and statements, the hearing was adjourned to address the missing issues.
