A person caught driving under the influence in Aydın attempted to evade punishment by claiming, "We are the heads of the AK Party organization," and also threatened the police. Following the controversial footage, the Aydın Governorship announced that the individual had been detained, while AK Party Deputy Chairman Ahmet Büyükgümüş and the AK Party Aydın Provincial Presidency stated that the person is not even a member of the party.
Hakan U., who was caught by the police in Aydın while being 2.10 promille drunk and using a disabled vehicle belonging to his brother, and his wife Berna U. caused difficult moments for the teams. Berna U., who repeatedly stated that she is the AK Party Aydın Efeler Organization President, threatened the police officers on duty by saying she would call the MP and the provincial chairman. Later, Hakan U. insulted the President and the police. In a phone call, Berna U. claimed to have spoken with AK Party Aydın MP Mustafa Savaş and threatened to give the names of the police officers to MP Mustafa Savaş.
GOVERNORATE ANNOUNCED THE ARREST
The Aydın Governorate announced that the driver in question was arrested. In a statement from the governorate, it was noted that during inspections conducted by traffic teams at 03:30 at night, the driver was found to be 2.09 promille drunk, a fine of 9,268 lira was imposed, and the driver's license was temporarily revoked for 6 months. It was indicated that as a result of examining the footage of the incident, it was determined that the suspect used expressions that incite hatred and hostility against the public and made insulting and threatening remarks towards the police officers on duty.
The statement included, "In accordance with the instructions of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, legal action has been initiated against H.Ü. for 'inciting hatred and hostility in the public' and 'insulting a public official,' the individual has been arrested and will be referred to judicial authorities with a presence."
AK PARTY'S STATEMENT: NOT EVEN A PARTY MEMBER
AK Party Deputy Chairman and Organization President Ahmet Büyükgümüş stated that the woman who introduced herself as the AK Party Aydın Efeler organization president to the police teams in Aydın is not a member of the party. Büyükgümüş, in a statement on his social media account, quoted a user's post about a woman caught drunk driving in Aydın who introduced herself as the AK Party Aydın Efeler organization president, saying, "We also watched your post with regret. The person mentioned here is neither the organization president of our party in Aydın Efeler district nor even a member."
A STATEMENT ALSO CAME FROM THE PROVINCIAL CHAIRMANSHIP
AK Party Aydın Provincial Chairman stated that the driver who was processed for driving under the influence and the person accompanying him have no connections with the party as claimed. In the statement, it was noted that it was deemed necessary to make a statement to properly inform the public due to comments and shares made on social media regarding the video in question.
The statement emphasized that driving under the influence directly endangers life and property safety and is a serious crime that cannot be taken lightly, stating: "We would like to particularly emphasize that the individuals seen in the video have no membership or connection to our party, and that the mentioned individuals have no relationship with AK Party organizations. Claims in this regard do not reflect the truth and are completely unfounded. We respect the sensitivity of the public and strongly remind that the matter should be left to the legal processes without being used for political manipulation."
