The woman, who tried to pressure her neighbor demanding her car be towed by showing a card reading "Judge/Prosecutor," sparked widespread backlash on social media.
Following the footage, the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office determined that the woman was not a member of the judiciary and launched an investigation against her.
STATEMENT FROM MINISTER GÜRLEK
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek said in a statement on the matter: "In the incident that occurred today in Istanbul Ataşehir; an immediate judicial investigation has been launched against the individual who threatened a citizen by using the title 'judge/prosecutor' despite not being a member of the judiciary.
The professions of judge and prosecutor are guarantees of the rule of law and one of the strongest assurances of our nation's sense of justice. No one can exploit this title to gain influence.
Those who attempt to disturb public peace by using the name of the justice system will never be tolerated; all necessary judicial and administrative actions will be resolutely carried out against any attempts targeting the dignity of our judicial organization. We will continue to resolutely protect the supremacy of law, the honor of our judicial members, and the rights of our citizens."
