Sad news came from Mehmet Eye, who was targeted for murder last year in Mardin when his son placed a remote-controlled bomb in his vehicle. It was learned that Eye, who survived the bomb attack unscathed, died as a result of a heart attack.
SON WANTED TO KILL HIM WITH A BOMB
The incident occurred on June 30, 2024, in the Mazıdağı district of Mardin. According to allegations, Polat E., along with three individuals he hired for money, placed a remote-controlled explosive device in his father Mehmet Eye's service vehicle due to an inheritance dispute.
However, Mehmet Eye noticed a suspicious bag near his vehicle and left its contents in a derelict building across from their home.
EXPLOSION OCCURRED IN THE DERELICT BUILDING
The suspects, thinking the explosive was still in the vehicle, attempted to detonate the device using the remote control along the route. Finally, after Mehmet Eye returned home, the explosion occurred in the derelict building when the remote was pressed again. Eye survived the attack without injury.
DIED FROM A HEART ATTACK
It was learned that Mehmet Eye, who survived the bomb attack, later died as a result of a heart attack.
DEFENDANTS SENTENCED TO PRISON
In the trial regarding the incident, the court rejected the defendants' defense that they intended to scare rather than kill, finding it to be aimed at receiving a lighter sentence.
The court ruled that the preparation and possession of the explosive also constituted the crime of unauthorised possession or transfer of dangerous substances.
Detained defendant Polat E. was sentenced to 17 years and 6 months in prison for attempted intentional homicide and unauthorised possession or transfer of dangerous substances.
Abas A. received 17 years and 4 months, Baran A. 13 years and 4 months imprisonment, while Berkant K., who was given 7 years and 1 month for aiding intentional homicide, was released due to time already served in detention.
