A Chinese tourist named Wengi Liu, who was taken around Istanbul by the driver of a taxi she boarded in Karaköy, was scammed out of 58,275 lira. The moments when the woman was taken around and defrauded by the taxi driver were captured on security cameras. The driver, Salih E., who has 26 criminal records, was arrested. Meanwhile, the tourist woman learned that she had been scammed thanks to her bank in China.
Chinese tourist Wengi Liu, who came to Istanbul, took a taxi with the license plate 34 TFG 65 in Karaköy. The female tourist told the taxi driver that she wanted to go to her hotel located in Taksim. The taxi driver then asked her if she wanted to explore Istanbul.
FORCED TO TAKE HER CARD, WITHDRAWING A TOTAL OF 58 THOUSAND LIRA 7 TIMES
Receiving a positive response from the Chinese tourist, the taxi driver took her around entertainment venues in Istanbul. The taxi driver then brought the woman to the front of her hotel. Allegedly, the taxi driver forcibly took the female tourist's credit card and withdrew a total of 58,275 lira 7 times. The events were captured second by second on security cameras.
REALIZED SHE WAS DEFRAUDED WHEN THE BANK IN CHINA CALLED
After the incident, the female tourist realized she had been defrauded upon receiving a phone call from a bank official in China and went to the police to file a complaint. Following the complaint, the Beyoğlu Public Order Bureau teams initiated an investigation and began examining the security camera footage. The police, who also checked the taxi's license plate, identified the taxi driver as Salih E. In ongoing operations, the taxi driver was caught and taken into custody.
IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE TAXI DRIVER HAD 26 CRIMINAL RECORDS
Salih E., who was taken to the police station, stated in his testimony that he had dinner with the Chinese female tourist and that he received payment for all expenses, including the taxi fare. It was revealed that Salih E. had 26 criminal records in the police database. He was referred to the courthouse and was arrested by the court for the crime of 'Robbery.'
