The file of 25-year-old Onur Sefer, who was killed with a shotgun in 2017 in the Hozat district of Tunceli, was transferred to the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office after the expert strongly found the possibility of murder. While mother Sultan Sefer demands justice, JASAT is deepening the investigation on suspicion of murder.
The investigation file regarding the death of Onur Sefer (25), who was found shot in his car 9 years ago in the Hozat district of Tunceli, has been transferred to the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Onur Sefer's mother, Sultan Sefer, said, "We want justice. We want Onur's killers to be revealed."
FILE TAKEN OFF THE SHELF AFTER 9 YEARS
The incident occurred on May 7, 2017, in the Ergen village area of the Hozat district. Onur Sefer was found dead, shot with a hunting rifle in his own car. An investigation was launched by the Hozat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident. In Sefer's autopsy report, it was determined that he was shot twice, once 6 centimeters above his left chest and once in the upper part of his left armpit. While it was determined that both shots were fired from a contact distance, the expert report noted inconsistencies between the size of the rifle, Sefer's lying position in the vehicle, and the distribution of pellet entry holes on the left front door.
POSITION OF BLOOD STAINS DID NOT MATCH LYING POSITION
In the expert examination, it was determined that there were smear blood stains in the shape of fingers on the back of the right front seat of the car, but these traces were not consistent with Onur Sefer's lying position in the vehicle. It was stated that no 'technical explanation' could be provided regarding how the blood stains found in the left rear wheel area of the vehicle were formed.
EXPERT: THE INCIDENT IS LIKELY A MURDER
In the conclusion section of the report, the expert expressed the opinion that the existing evidence and findings were 'not supportive of suicide' and that the incident was likely a murder. The report included the statements, "Based on all these reasons, I submit my expert opinion to your discretion that the origin of the death is not supportive of suicide, that the origin of the incident is likely murder, and that, considering the characteristics of the hunting rifle found in the vehicle, it is possible for the said act to have been carried out inside the vehicle, especially while the right front door was open."
MULTI-FACETED INVESTIGATION IN THE FILE CONTINUES
The investigation file conducted by the Hozat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was transferred to the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office after the establishment of Unsolved Crime Investigation Bureaus in 81 provinces upon the instruction of Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek. Upon the instruction of the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Teams (JASAT) approached the incident with the suspicion of 'murder' and initiated a detailed study. It was learned that within the scope of the file, fingerprints were re-examined, criminal analysis and cell site studies were conducted on Onur Sefer's 2 mobile phones, and witnesses were re-interviewed in detail. It was stated that a confidentiality order was imposed on the file to ensure the investigation proceeded healthily.
"MY CHILD HAD NEVER HARMED ANYONE"
His mother Sultan Sefer and father Süleyman Sefer, who have been fighting a legal battle for 9 years over the death of their son Onur Sefer, came to the Tunceli Courthouse to get information about the latest developments in the investigation. After meeting with the prosecutor handling the file, the family made statements. Sultan Sefer, stating that they expect justice, said, "It has been 9 years since we were separated from my Onur. My child had never harmed anyone. He had planted 100 walnut trees and was dealing with them. He had a girlfriend and was constantly with her. We met with the prosecutor, and he said he would do his best. We want justice. We want Onur's killers to be revealed. Our pain is enormous; we cannot bear it."
Süleyman Sefer said, "A full examination was not conducted at the scene. No operations were carried out, and the suspects' homes were not searched. We want the suspects to be caught and punished." He added: "We want the suspects to be captured and punished."
