The heavy downpour that affected Istanbul caused flooding in many districts. In some areas, rainfall reached up to 95 kilograms per square meter, roads turned into lakes, and vehicles were stranded. In Sultangazi, moments when a municipal worker entered the water up to his neck and tried to open a manhole cover drew attention. In Esenyurt, a woman was swept away by floodwaters, while AKOM warned that the rainfall could continue along with a strong storm.

The heavy downpour affecting Istanbul negatively impacted daily life. Especially in the northern and central parts of the European Side, puddles formed on many streets and avenues due to the rain.

During the flood in Sultangazi, a municipal worker took action to drain the accumulated water. Entering water that rose up to his neck, the worker tried to open the manhole cover. The worker's struggle in the water laid bare the disruptions the downpour caused in the city.

IN SOME DISTRICTS, 95 KILOGRAMS OF RAINFALL FELL PER SQUARE METER

The Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Disaster Affairs and Risk Management Department, shared data on rainfall amounts in the city.

According to AKOM's statement, a large part of Turkey, especially Istanbul, came under the influence of cold air coming from the Balkans and a rainy weather system originating from the Central Mediterranean.

As a result of the rainfall that began on Tuesday morning, 50 to 95 kilograms of rainfall per square meter was recorded in areas including the districts of Beykoz, Sarıyer, Eyüpsultan, Arnavutköy, Başakşehir, Sultangazi, and Büyükçekmece.

In other districts of Istanbul, the amount of rainfall was reported to vary between 10 and 40 kilograms per square meter.

ROADS TURNED INTO LAKES, VEHICLES WERE STRANDED

Due to the downpour, floods occurred at different points in Istanbul. While some underpasses, avenues, and streets filled with water, drivers had difficulty making progress in traffic.

In areas where the water level rose, some vehicles were stranded on the road. While transportation disruptions occurred due to the rainfall, citizens also experienced difficult moments.

WOMAN SWEPT AWAY BY FLOODWATERS IN ESENYURT

One of the most dangerous moments of the downpour occurred in Esenyurt. A woman was swept away and dragged by floodwaters that formed after the heavy rainfall. While nearby citizens rushed to help the woman, the incident once again revealed the danger posed by floodwaters.

At another point in Istanbul, a motorcyclist had a difficult time while trying to move forward on a water-filled road. The moments when the motorcycle sank into the water were captured on camera.

HEAVY DOWNPOUR AND STORM WARNING FROM AKOM

AKOM announced that rainfall is expected to continue its effect in Istanbul. It was stated that heavy downpour episodes may continue in the districts of Beykoz, Sarıyer, Eyüpsultan, Başakşehir, Esenyurt, Büyükçekmece, Avcılar, and Küçükçekmece.

It was reported that, along with the rainfall, the wind is expected to blow in the form of a strong storm, occasionally reaching speeds of 50 to 80 kilometers per hour.

It was emphasized that precautions should be taken against floods, transportation disruptions, and the adverse effects the storm may cause in regions where heavy rainfall continues.
