An investigation has been launched into the footage of the operation in Kahramanmaraş in which writer Sadi Yüksel was detained, and the way it was reflected in the press. It was stated that Interior Minister Çiftçi, who gave the instruction for the investigation, also reacted to the display of a book by writer and thinker Sayyid Qutb among the documents seized during the operation. A comprehensive examination will be conducted on the matter.
The detention footage of the writer Sadi Yüksel, known as “Kul Sadi” in Kahramanmaraş, had drawn a public backlash. At the instruction of Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, who did not remain silent about the operation that caused controversy, an investigation was launched into the manner in which Yüksel and the other suspects with him were brought to the courthouse in reverse handcuffs and with pressure applied to the backs of their necks.
QUTB'S WORK WAS ALSO SERVED AS A DOCUMENT
Within the scope of the investigation, while it was aimed to identify those responsible for the practices during the process of bringing the suspects to the courthouse and for the recording and sharing of these images, the display of a book by the writer and thinker Sayyid Qutb among the documents seized in the operation also caused criticism.
AN EXAMINATION WILL BE CONDUCTED
It was stated that Minister Çiftçi reacted to the situation, and that an investigation was also opened because Qutb's book was displayed as evidence. An examination will be conducted by civil administration inspectors on the matter.
DIFFERENT INVESTIGATIONS WERE COMBINED
On the other hand, it was stated that in the operation carried out on October 6, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office combined the investigation into the DAESH structure with the investigation into the Vuslat Group and served an erroneous note to the press. While judicial control in the form of not leaving the residence was imposed on Sadi Yüksel, who was referred to the magistrate's court with a request for arrest, the concrete accusations leveled against Yüksel were not shared with the public.
WHO IS SAYYID QUTB?
Sayyid Qutb (1906–1966) was an Egyptian writer, literary critic, and Islamist thinker. He was one of the leading figures of the Muslim Brotherhood movement and was known especially for his influence on political Islamist thought.
Initially working in the fields of literature and education, Qutb over time developed a thought advocating that Islam should form the basis of the social and political order. The concept of “jahiliyyah” he used in evaluating modern societies, and his views that sovereignty belongs to God, influenced many subsequent Islamist movements.
His best-known works are “Fi Zilal al-Qur'an” (In the Shade of the Qur'an), a Qur'anic commentary, and “Milestones” (Signposts on the Road), in which he summarized his ideas.
He was arrested during the rule of Gamal Abdel Nasser and executed on August 29, 1966.
