The heavy downpour that was effective in Istanbul negatively affected life. While roads turned into lakes at many points in the city, underpasses were flooded. The flow rate of the stream in Küçükçekmece Atakent, however, rose rapidly after the rain. The sight of the stream flowing as if cascading made people say, 'Is this the Black Sea?'

The downpour that made itself felt in Istanbul caused striking scenes in Küçükçekmece. As the water level of the stream in Atakent rose, the fast-flowing water evoked the raging streams of the Black Sea.

THE DOWNPOUR IN ISTANBUL NEGATIVELY AFFECTED DAILY LIFE

The downpour affecting Istanbul negatively impacted daily life in various parts of the city. As the rainfall intensified, flooding occurred in some areas. Underpasses were flooded, and some roads almost turned into lakes. While accumulated rainwater caused disruptions in transportation, the effects of the rainfall were felt in different parts of the city. One of the most striking images of the downpour emerged in the Küçükçekmece district.

IN KÜÇÜKÇEKMECE, THE STREAM ALMOST ROARED

The stream in the Atakent area of Küçükçekmece took on a completely different appearance after the heavy rainfall. As the stream's flow rate rose due to the downpour, the water was seen flowing at great speed. The stream, forming a raging scene unlike its normal flow, revealed the impact of the rainfall. The movement of the water and the cascading appearance of the stream recalled the rivers in the Black Sea region.

IT MADE ONLOOKERS SAY “IS THIS THE BLACK SEA?”

The scene that emerged in Atakent became one of the images showing the extent of the rainfall affecting Istanbul. The almost roaring of the stream as its flow rate increased brought to mind the streams that swell after heavy rainfall in the Black Sea. This scene appearing in the middle of Istanbul brought with it the comment “Is this the Black Sea?”
