Thousands of citizens who were bothered by their unfortunate, misspelled, or ridiculed surnames took advantage of the legal regulation made without requiring a court decision and changed their surnames. Following applications to the population directorates, the 10 most changed and consigned to history interesting surnames in Turkey were revealed.
In the past, citizens who experienced great difficulties in their social lives because of their surnames recorded in population registers with erroneous, semantically shifted, or socially ridiculous expressions took advantage of the facilitating legal regulation that was introduced. Many surnames that caused their bearers difficult moments due to the meaning or connotations they carried were, as it were, erased from identities with the applications made.
