Kocaeli University faculty member Prof. Dr. İrfan Kaya Ülger was a guest of Abdurrahman Yazıcı on Haberler.com. While commenting on the historical conflicts between India and Pakistan and the current regional balances, Ülger also highlighted the role that Turkey could play in this context.
Conflicts have erupted between the two nuclear powers, India and Pakistan. As mutual losses and threats increase, the greatest concern for the rest of the world has become the possibility of nuclear weapons being used in the conflicts.
Prof. Dr. İrfan Kaya Ülger, a faculty member at Kocaeli University, was a guest of Abdurrahman Yazıcı on Haberler.com. Explaining the source of the conflicts between the two countries, Prof. Dr. Ülger stated, "Pakistan and India have fought four times to date. The root of the conflict between Pakistan and India lies in the Kashmir issue. A terrorist attack was carried out in the town of Pahalgam in India, resulting in the deaths of 26 people. This attack was claimed by an organization called the Resistance Front. India blamed Pakistan for this. Pakistan, on the other hand, stated that this was a false flag operation and that they had no connection with such an organizational formation. India reacted strongly. Diplomatic relations were severed. Visas issued to Pakistan were canceled, airspace was closed, and trade relations were frozen.
"INDUS WATERS TREATY" INCREASED TENSIONS
What further escalated the tension was the Indus Waters Treaty... The treaty was suspended by India. It is an important water source for Pakistan. Approximately 60-70% of Pakistan's agriculture and drinking water depend on this water source.
